FAQs
Why should I use indoor tanning lotions?
|
Indoor tanning lotions add nutrients your body needs to produce melanin. Our line of quality lotions contain vitamin A, C, E, and botanicals that moisturize and increase blood flow, thus increasing oxygenation of melanin cells to help speed up the tanning process. UV rays reflect off of dry skin, the moisturizers in tanning lotions help you absorb UV rays for better results. You will tan about twice as fast and keep your tan twice as long.

What is the difference between tanning lotions?
|
Well, when it comes to tanning lotion, there are many different choices to choose from, and once you find the one that works best for you, your tanning experience will be completely transformed. The reason it is so important to use a lotion in the tanning bed, is naturally it takes 7-10 minutes for a tan to begin the activation process – but with lotion, that activation process takes 30 seconds, which in turn will help get you better results in the beds!

Why go for a Bronzer?
|
A bronzer is typically known as the lotions that contain added color to them, to help darken your tan and blend uneven areas. When a lotion has bronzer in it, this helps “tone” the color of the tan to give you more of a natural glow. When thinking of bronzing lotions, there are typically two main categories that are referred to.
DHA Bronzers
The lotions that contain DHA (dihydroxyacetone), have a colorless, gradual tanning component to them. DHA is a sugar-based ingredient that “interacts with amino acids in dead skin cells to produce a brown color change to the skin. Since the color change is within the dead skin cells, the brown color from DHA will typically last about 5-7 days. (DHA is the same ingredient used in a Self-Tanning Lotion). Please remember to rub your lotion in evenly and wash your hands when your tanning session ends.
Natural Bronzers
The lotions that are known as Natural Bronzers, provide immediate results without staining. The natural color comes from plant or herbal extracts instead of DHA, giving you natural color immediately. Some of these lotions typically contain caramel, riboflavin, walnut shell, and henna. The color from a natural bronzer will wash off when you shower.
Intensifiers, Accelerators & Maximizers
When checking out an Intensifier/Accelerator/Maximizer, these will be more helpful to hydrate the skin and bring more of your natural color out. Intensifiers have no bronzers in them, and they have ingredients that help bring the melanin in your skin to the surface. When the melanin in your skin is brought closer to the surface, this helps in allowing for it to be bronzed more naturally. Leaving out the bronzer in your lotion will ensure a more natural tan and will help you jumpstart your base color.
*If you are a first-time tanner, using an Intensifier can be a great way to begin to build your base color*
Tingles
Have you ever heard of Tingle tanning lotion before? If you are an experienced tanner and you are looking to get a deeper, darker tan – Tingles could be a great Segway into achieving even better tanning results. The way that tingles work is through the active ingredient of Benzyl Nicotinate, which works to increase blood and oxygen circulation in the skin. With the increased circulation, this brings about the production of more melanin, which in turn allows for a darker color to be produced. *Although tinglers can bring about more intense color, they also create an itching/burning sensation, If you have a low pain tolerance or are prone to sensitive skin tinglers are not for you. Tingle lotions do transfer, so please be careful.
What’s So Important About Face Lotions?
Why is it important to use a different lotion on my face than on my body? The skin on your face is the most delicate and sensitive area of skin, and ensuring that you are protecting it and giving it the proper skincare it needs – will help create a healthier tan. Using a lotion designed specifically for the face will help protect it against signs of aging such as wrinkles, elasticity, and firmness. Face tanning lotions are designed with proper skincare ingredients to help with anti-aging effects as well as the firmness and youthful glow that can be lost due to over tanning the face.
Tan Extenders
Last, but not least – we have our Hempz Tan Extending lotions. The purpose of these lotions is to help extend your tan by keeping your skin moisturized, nourished, and healthy. The tan extending lotions that we sell at Endless Summer all have ingredients that are meant to nourish the skin with intense moisture such as hemp seed oil, vitamins E and B5, and other HydraRich complexes.

Is indoor tanning as effective as outdoor tanning?
|
Yes, in fact, sometimes more so because you are in a controlled environment. Your skin produces a tan the same way in an indoor tanning salon as it does when you lay out in the sun: through ultraviolet (UV) light. However, out in the sun, you cannot control the amount of UV light exposure and trying to achieve an all-over even-body tan is very difficult. Indoor tanning allows you to control the amount of UV light, for an all-over even tan. With indoor tanning you can gradually increase your exposure time eliminating any sunburn, which is harmful to the skin. The results and convenience of an “indoor tan” allows a year round healthy looking tan without concerns of prolonged exposure to the burning rays of the sun.

How long will it take to see results?
|
To build an awesome tan, tan regularly. Allowing too much time between visits will cause your tan to fade. Most people will see a skin color change after the first few sessions. Normally, you will have a good base tan in 6-10 sessions. Then one or two sessions a week thereafter will maintain your tan year round. There are special cells in the skin called melanocytes. Ultraviolet B rays stimulate these cells and cause them to produce melanin. As these cells migrate to the surface of the skin, ultraviolet A rays oxidize them; thus creating a tan. Each of us has a different amount of melanin. Fair-skinned, fair-haired people generally have less than dark-haired, dark-skinned people. This determines, for the most part, how quickly and how dark your skin will tan.

How do I keep my tan?
|
Moisturize! Moisturize! Healthy skin tans faster, darker, and retains a tan longer. Drink plenty of water and make sure to keep your skin moisturized with a high quality lotion especially formulated-for-tanning. Your skin is constantly renewing itself. The dryer your skin is, the faster it wants to shed its top layers and bring new skin to the surface. You lose the top layers, you lose your tan. Dry layers on the surface of your skin will block the UV rays from getting to the other layers to tan them. Even with moisturizing you will still need to maintain a tanning schedule of every 4 to 5 days, or at least once a week, to keep your tan, because your skin is reproducing new cells all the time.

How do I get rid of Unwanted Tan Lines?
|
Under arms
If you find you are getting white areas under your arms, try putting your arms over your head for half of your session. Using a stand-up unit with its overhead handles every third session will help as well.
Lines under buttocks
This can be caused by the weight of your body folding your skin under while you lie down. Try lifting your legs one at a time, in the classic sunbathing position, for half of the session each. Use of the stand-up every third tan also eliminates this problem.
Pressure points
Pressure points can develop under your shoulder blades or on your tailbone as a result of the lack of blood flow to these areas when you are lying down. To tan over these spots, try using the standup every third visit, or shifting your weight side to side a few times while using the lie-down.
Under chin
This can be caused by tilting your head downward during the session. If you are in a bed, tilt your head slightly backward, exposing more of your neck. If you are in the stand-up, try to point your head directly forward or slightly toward the ceiling.

Do I have to use eyewear while I tan?
|
Please do not consider tanning without eyewear. Your eyelids are not thick enough to protect your eyes from UV damage! Simply keeping your eyes closed while tanning will NOT prevent serious damage. The very thin skin and underlying membrane of the eyelid do not keep UV rays from penetrating the eye, potentially burning the cornea and doing more severe damage to the lens and retina. In addition to night vision loss, excessive unprotected exposure to UV light – indoors or outdoors – will also damage color vision and can even result in cancer on the eyelids. Several styles of FDA compliant eye protection are available for purchase, and you are required to wear it during every tanning session. Don’t worry about getting “raccoon eyes” – this can be easily avoided by slightly re-positioning your eye protection once or twice during your session.
